An entity is something that has a distinct, separate existence, though it need not be a material existence. In particular, abstractions and legal fictions are usually regarded as entities. In general, there is also no presumption that an entity is animate. Entities are used in system developmental models that display communications and internal processing of, say, documents compared to order processing.

An entity could be viewed as a set containing subsets. In philosophy, such sets are said to be abstract objects.

Sometimes, the word entity is used in a general sense of a being, whether or not the referent has material existence; e.g., is often referred to as an entity with no corporeal form, such as a language. It is also often used to refer to ghosts and other spirits. Taken further, entity sometimes refers to existence or being itself. For example, the former U.S. diplomat George F. Kennan once said that "the policy of the government of the United States is to seek ... to preserve Chinese territorial and administrative entity."

The word entitative is the adjective form of the noun entity. Something that is entitative is "considered as pure entity; abstracted from all circumstances", that is, regarded as entity alone, apart from attendant circumstances.

What is the legal entity for a business where 100% of profits go to support a non-profit endeavor?
Q. My friend is currently the CEO of an NPO, and wants to launch a for-profit business using the same model as his NPO and donating 100% of his profits to the non-profit. the purpose of the for-profit business is to add financial security to the non-profit and lessen reliance on grants, etc. also, both the NPO and the for-profit would be under the same parent company. Although the branding of the 2 companies would be under different names. so what is the legal entity for this? can it still be classified as a non-profit? an L3C? or would it still be billed as a for-profit agency. or something entirely different?

A. The IRS will smell something then will call for major audit. Tell your friend to do it right, legal and to avoid doing something unaware of. He better consult with an attorney for this where there will be many papers to be filled for the IRS, secretary of the state.

If a Regulatory Entity fines a financial institution, How can you receive the fines because you were harmed?
Q. You were the one who complained to the Regulatory Entity, and they got fined, as a result.

A. Fines are not paid to the person who blew the whistle but to the government. If you believe you are entitled to compensation because you were wronged, you will need to file a civil suit claiming damages. The fact that the regulatory agency fined the financial institution works in your favor, of course.

Can a ghost or entity leave a visible handprint?
Q. I have heard that spirits can make sound of footsteps, screams, bangs, tapping sounds, etc. And in most rare cases, spirits known as poltergeists moving or breaking objects. However, I wonder if anyone has seen a footpring or a handprint on a window, table, or car perhaps which an entity would be responsible for the imprint?

A. That's currently debated. Roughly half of the paranormal experts say yes, and the other half say no. Nobody knows for sure. Personally, I believe they could. Spirits cause temperature changes, so the change in temperature around one's hand could, in theory, discolor or fog up something that was sensitive to temperature (like glass). Then, all it would take is some dust or something to stick to the fog and you have a ghostly hand print.
